Please note: Lancashire County Council (LCC) was forced to shut down the County Archaeology Service as a consequence of budget cuts in April 2016. Whilst LCC has retained the Historic Environment Record it is presently operated on a voluntary basis for LCC and the volunteers will facilitate visits by appointment to consult the Record. The volunteers will also provide a service for non-commercial remote enquiries (i.e. letters, e-mails). Contact details for this service are provided above.

Most of the local authority advisory and commercial operations formerly undertaken by the County Council and utilising the Historic Environment Record have been taken over by a new commercial consultancy, the Lancashire Archaeological Advisory Service (LAAS). LAAS can consult the HER on your behalf, but will make a charge for commercial enquiries. Contact details are:

Lancashire Archaeological Advisory Service, 1 Carr House Lane, Lancaster, Lancashire, LA1 1SW.
